Gators reload

As part of their recruiting pitch for defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd of George Washington High in Philadelphia, the Florida Gators expressed the likelihood of him being in the rotation this fall.

That wasn’t what Floyd wanted to hear.

“Sharrif said, ‘I don’t want to be rotated. I want to start,'” Washington coach Ron Cohen said. “That’s his attitude. I told him that in college football they can run 80 plays, and no defensive tackle is going to be out there for 80 plays.”

Floyd, a 6-foot-3, 310-pounder rated by Rivals.com as the No. 1 defensive tackle nationally and the No. 4 prospect overall, committed to Florida at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio on Jan. 9. That same day at the same locale, defensive end Ronald Powell (6-4, 230) of Rancho Verde High in Moreno Valley, Calif., committed to Florida.

Powell is rated No. 1 overall by Rivals.com.
