In the first gathering of what could be a long-lasting, meaningful partnership under the Volkswagen umbrella, the Chattanooga Football Club is heading to Washington later this month to face a squad from D.C. United.
On July 24 at RFK Stadium, Chattanooga FC will play a team predominantly comprised of United’s Super-20 (20-and-under) team, with some reserves from the Major League Soccer squad participating as well.
“The great thing is both clubs have a major stake with Volkswagen, so we’ve got that common bond,” CFC board member Sean McDaniel said. “Both teams also have great, loyal fan bases, so we felt like there’s got to be a way that the two of us can have some sort of relationship.
“They’ve been extremely accommodating, very agreeable, and ultimately we’d love to get D.C. United down here in the near future.”
If CFC (5-0-2) wins one of its last two games, or ties both, the second-year amateur club will win the Southeast Division of the National Premier Soccer League and qualify for the NPSL Final Four Championship at the end of the month in Madison, Ala.
