A group of music professors and indie rockers will unveil an experimental new music group this weekend at Lindsay Street Hall.
Called New Dischord, the band is “branding a new form of concert music that is both experimental and eclectic,” according to a news release. Shows will include musical and visual elements.
“Part stage performance, part chamber music concert, part rock band, this union of musical styles aims to reach a younger audience that seeks a more elaborate form of entertainment, an audience that might otherwise never step into a concert hall,” said the release.
New Dischord takes its inspiration from elements of indie-rock bands such as the Dirty Projectors, contemporary music collectives such as Bang on a Can and stage performances such as Cirque du Soleil.
The premiere weekend features two concerts: 8 tonight and 3 p.m. Sunday, both at Lindsay Street Hall, corner of Lindsay Street and M.L. King Boulevard.
The concert will include three world premieres: compositions by Federico Garcia of Pittsburg, Tim Hinck of Chattanooga and Jonathan McNair of Chattanooga. Special guest Aaron Roche of New York will join the group with tunes from his latest album, a classical/indie-rock collaboration with Hinck. Drummer/percussionist Dan Burns of Nashville also will sit in on a few tunes.
Donations will be accepted at both shows.
