Some election officials in Northwest Georgia say voting in advance of Tuesday’s primary election has been slow leading up to the final day Friday.
“They just wait until the last week,” said Elaine Pledger, Chattooga County chief registrar. “It’s just procrastination, I think, or maybe they’re still trying to decide who they’re going to vote for.”
In Walker County, precincts at Chickamauga, Rock Spring, Fairyland and Rossville are open for advanced voting from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The elections office at the courthouse in LaFayette is open, too, said county Elections Supervisor Barbara Berry, though the number of walk-ins to her office has been slim.

“Hopefully, it will pick up, because we have a lot of state races,” she said.
The story’s the same in Catoosa, Elections Supervisor Tonya Moore said from her office at Catoosa Hall in downtown Ringgold, the only place Catoosa residents can vote early. Advance voting hours there are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
Chattooga residents can cast advance votes from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the registrar’s office in Summerville.
On the ballot are state primaries for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, agriculture commissioner, insurance commissioner, school superintendent, labor commissioner, public service commissioner and U.S. senator. Also included on ballots are congressional seats, state House and Senate seats, school board seats and county commission posts.
Walker, Catoosa and Chattooga total about 85,000 registered voters among them.
