Man hit by car on Cummings Highway

Sheriff’s office personnel identified a 48-year-old Chattanooga man on Monday as the victim of a hit-and-run accident Sunday night.

Terry Bailey was crossing Cummings Highway when he was hit by a vehicle traveling west, according to Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson.

The vehicle did not stop after striking with Mr. Bailey, Ms. Atkinson said.

According to witnesses, the vehicle was a Mercury operated by a heavyset white female with short brown hair. Officials did not provide the color or model of the car.

Traffic investigators interviewed several witnesses, but Ms. Atkinson is asking anyone with information to call the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office at 622-0022.

Officer injured chasing suspect

An East Ridge police officer “sustained severe injuries to his knees” early Monday while capturing a fleeing suspect, authorities said.

Richard Carluccio, 34, of Soddy-Daisy, drove his 1996 Ford Explorer away from police during an attempted traffic stop at 1:20 a.m. on Ringgold Road, according to East Ridge officers.

Police chased Mr. Carluccio onto Interstate 75 northbound and Interstate 24 westbound at speeds reaching 70 mph, police said.

Another East Ridge officer had set up a spike strip on a ramp at the Germantown Road exit. A tire deflated after striking the strip, but Mr. Carluccio continued to flee on three tires until he exited onto Rossville Boulevard and then ran away, officers said.

During the foot pursuit Master Officer Robert Wade sustained knee injuries while trying to capture Mr. Carluccio. He had surgery Monday to repair both knees.

Mr. Carluccio was charged with DUI, fourth offense driving on a revoked license, felony evading arrest and reckless endangerment, records show.

Clark charged in armed robbery

Over the weekend East Ridge police arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with an armed robbery at the Cascade Motel on Ringgold Road.

Officers stopped Michael R. Clark at 4152 East Ridge Drive as he was leaving the scene in a dark colored vehicle, according to a police release.

A victim told police that Mr. Clark came to room 68 at the 3625 Ringgold Road motel, pushed him to the ground when he opened the door while holding a silver knife. The suspect took the victim’s wallet and fled in a dark-colored car.

Police recovered the stolen wallet and found a knife in Mr. Clark’s possession. He was charged with aggravated robbery and has a court appearance scheduled on July 20 in East Ridge Municipal Court.

Two men sought in store burglary

The Dalton (Ga.) Police Department is looking for two men believed to have burglarized two local Hobby Lobby stores, according to a news release.

The men allegedly stole nearly $1,500 worth of jewelry from the Walnut Avenue Hobby Lobby and are suspected of stealing from the Cleveland, Tenn., location earlier this year.

At about 2 p.m. July 14, two white men entered the Hobby Lobby store at 2103 East Walnut Ave. The store’s surveillance system recorded them walking up to a jewelry counter and stuffing items into their pockets before bypassing cash registers and walking out of the store.

Store managers called police after finding the jewelry was missing. Dalton investigators compared the images from the Dalton store to pictures from the Cleveland location and determined the suspects were the same people.

One suspect has a medium build and a brown beard and wore a ball cap. The other individual had close-cropped dark hair and a stocky build. These individuals may be traveling in a white Ford Taurus.

Man shot at rec center parking lot

A man was shot in the arm in East Chattanooga Recreation Center parking lot Monday afternoon, police said.

All 30 children at the center’s Kids Camp Summer Program were inside the building during the shooting, said Officer Rebecca Royval, a spokeswoman for the Chattanooga Police Department.

Police were still searching for the suspect, Terrance Smith, 19, as of 5 p.m. Monday, Officer Royval said.

The victim, Cordell Oden, 21, was treated for a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound and was later taken to Parkridge Medical Center in a nonemergency vehicle, police said.

Investigators said the victim and suspect had a recent disagreement. Mr. Oden attempted to leave when Mr. Smith shot at him with a small-caliber handgun and the blast grazed Mr. Oden in the arm, police said.

The incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. at the center’s 2409 Dodson Ave. location, Officer Royval said.
