It’s time for the Honey Harvest at Creative Discovery Museum, and the place is all abuzz.

For the 10th annual event, scheduled Saturday and Sunday, guests can get a closer look at the art of beekeeping, the life and work of a honeybee and how honey is made.

“Once you learn just a little about the honeybee, it is almost impossible not to be in awe of them,” said Erica Campbell, the museum’s experience manager and one of three staff members who are trained master beekeepers.

“From the social structure of the hive to the variety of uses for honey and beeswax, honeybees are some of the most fascinating creatures out there,” she said.

A hive of honeybees has long been a part of the museum’s exhibits. Since May the bees have enjoyed a new habitat of plants on the museum’s new green roof. These bees now have the benefit of an ecosystem similar to that in natural areas. Their busy work helps maintain the rooftop habitat and, in turn, the energy efficiency the roof provides the museum.
