Two get unruly at Coolidge movie

Coolidge Park was featuring “Movies in the Park” when two juveniles reportedly caused a disturbance Saturday night.

Chattanooga police Sgt. Adrian Gibb said the juveniles had been asked to stop two or three times before they eventually were told to leave the park.

“It’s a family event, and they were being a disturbance,” he said.

“When they were told to leave, they apparently didn’t want to. They left and are now on their way to a juvenile facility,” Sgt. Gibb said.

He confirmed that there were no punches thrown and that there were no other disturbances other than this isolated incident. Sgt. Gibb also confirmed that this was nothing like the shooting of a few months ago that occurred in Coolidge Park.

“This wasn’t a flash mob,” Sgt. Gibb said. “This was two juveniles that didn’t want to leave and both left. It was handled safely and with no problems.”

First Things First funded eight Chattanooga officers along with an additional eight officers provided by the Chattanooga Police Department on overtime to ensure that this family-friendly event was enjoyed by all, according to police spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Royval.

To keep problems to a minimum, juveniles are not allowed in the area designated for the event unless accompanied by a parent or adult guardian for the purpose of watching the movie, she said.
