Culverts creating road problems in Walden

Culverts throughout the town of Walden are dangerously blocked by eroding soil and debris, according to local residents.

“It’s a chronic problem,” said Susan Snow, who lives on Key Hulse Road. “The town of Walden needs to pay attention to its culverts. When the ditches wash out the roads deteriorate too.”

Tennessee is no newcomer to the disasters of flooding, erosion and subsequent washouts, having had more than its fair share in the past year. Snow and other residents said at the May town meeting that Wilson Avenue is already crumbling away, but said anywhere with a steep grade is worth extra attention.

They said the problem will persist until the roads are repaved or at least reinforced.

According to Town Recorder Fern Lockhart, Wilson Road will be repaved once Walden’s Ridge Utility District finishes with its project there, but she noted that work hasn’t begun yet.
