The Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour will make a stop in Chattanooga Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m.
The seven-city tour, which begins today in Newton, Iowa, and wraps up June 11 in Mobile, Ala., will stop at Chattanooga State Community and Technical College. More than 4,500 cars are expected to participate in the 1,500-mile journey through the Midwest.
Coker Tire will host the Crusie Night stop here.
More than 65,000 spectators are expected for the tour. At each stop along the way, more than 80 premiere automotive and after-market manufacturers will set up a traveling performance fair with booths and displays.
“The Power Tour is almost a religious experience for all of us at the magazine,” said Jerry Pitt, Hot Rod publisher. “The adrenaline rush of meeting our readers, seeing the endless variety of car creations — many inspired by the magazine’s articles — and leading the most awe-inspiring parade of cool cars through town after town-well, there is nothing that even comes close for us.”
The Chattanooga-based Austin Hatcher Foundation for pediatric cancer has been named the official charity of the 2010 event. The Austin Hatcher Foundation will host a Pinewood “Muscle Car” Derby each day of the tour. Cars will be available online in advance or for purchase in limited quantities at all of the stops along the tour with proceeds from the sales of the Pinewood “Muscle Car” to benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation for pediatric cancer.
