‘Wrong’ baby aborted, then …

In a heartbreaking case that illustrates why doctors should not play God by performing abortions, an abortionist accidentally aborted the “wrong” baby recently.

A woman in Florida was expecting twins. But one of the babies appeared in prenatal tests to have Down syndrome. That’s a genetic disorder that affects about one in 800 babies and that can cause heart, hearing and vision problems — though many with Down syndrome live long and productive lives. Sadly, the woman decided to abort the baby who appeared to have the disorder and keep the other baby.

The decision to abort a “defective” baby was bad enough, but the abortionist aborted the “wrong” baby in the womb! He has since lost his medical license and reportedly became suicidal after the mistake came to light. Then, as if the situation were not bad enough, the baby with Down syndrome was aborted, too.

That makes it doubly tragic.

An unborn baby’s life is not valuable only because it is fortunate enough to enjoy perfect health or to lack “defects.” As an innocent, defenseless human being, it deserves society’s utmost protection. It does not deserve to be disposed of through abortion.
