After Friday’s gray skies and periodic rain, weekend daytime conditions should be sunnier with a chance of evening showers, according to forecasters.
Though it will be mostly sunny during daylight hours, there likely will be some thunderstorms and evening showers, said Tim Troutman, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tenn.
The chance of rain could increase late Sunday with a cold front expected to drop in, Mr. Troutman said. Overall, though, he predicted that the weekend should be seasonably warm with highs in the 80s both days.
Highs in the upper 80s also are expected for the Northwest Georgia area, said Mike Leary, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Ga. He anticipates a chance of showers and thunderstorms decreasing to 30 percent this evenign and rising to 50 percent Sunday night.
“These possible showers and thunderstorms do not look severe,” Mr. Leary said. “That’s the good news.”
The recent heat and humidity punctuated by scattered thunderstorms will continue through the weekend, said David Glenn, NewsChannel 9 chief meteorologist.

He advised that locals prepare for muggy temperatures in many areas across the region. Not only will weekend temperatures be in the upper 80s, but “it’s going to feel like upper 90s when you factor in the heat index,” Mr. Glenn said, “so, by all means, stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids if you’re going to be outside for any length of time during the weekend.”
In keeping with recent weather trends, scattered thunderstorms could continue to pop up through the weekend with a greater chance of storms on Sunday afternoon, he said.
“A few of those storms on Sunday might be severe,” Mr. Glenn said, “so be closely watching that and keep in mind lightning safety rules if you are going to be outside.
“When the thunder roars, go indoors.”
