Despite a rough first inning and unpredictable weather, Sunday afternoon ended successfully for the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field.
The Lookouts fell behind early to the Carolina Mudcats. But just as they did in the first game Saturday night, the Lookouts offense came alive for a 10-7 win to take the first two games of the five game series despite a 61-minute rain delay.
Chattanooga starter Jesus Castillo opened the game by allowing a walk and a hit to the first two Carolina batters, and the Mudcats took a 2-0 lead on a Brandon Yarbrough single.
But the Lookouts’ bats came alive in the bottom of the second with four runs on four hits. Elian Herrera tied the game with a two-run double to score Eddy Perez and Jesse Mier, and the Lookouts took the lead on a bases-loaded walk by Trayvon Robinson and a sacrifice fly by Jaime Pedroza.
Carolina scored in the third to cut the lead to 4-3 on a Mike Costanzo single to score Jake Kahauleilo, but a bases-loaded double by Corey Smith scored three runs to end Mudcats starter Alexander Smit’s day and put Chattanooga ahead 7-3 after four innings.
