The D-Day cliff in Normandy

Last Sunday — June 6 — we recalled D-Daay in 1944, whaen U.S. and Allied troops landed in Normandy, France, for “the beginning of the end” of World War II in Europe.

In our paper there was a color picture of Pointe du Hoc, noting that nature is eating away at the historic precipice that half a million visitors view each year. The American Battle Monuments Commission is spending $6 million to stabilize the cliff to keep a former Nazi bunker from falling into the sea.

Let us give thanks our troops do not have to assault it again.
