Player: Kelsey Nunley

Because of a cut suffered on the middle finger of her pitching hand, Nunley was unable to compete in the winners-bracket final and championship game when Soddy-Daisy won the TSSAA Class AAA softball state title. However, her standout performances throughout the year and postseason to that point were key components in the Lady Trojans’ success. The sophomore right-hander, who routinely pitched against Soddy-Daisy’s tougher opponents, finished with a 29-1 pitching record with 17 shutouts and an ERA of 0.40. In 1761/3 innings pitched, she had 237 strikeouts while allowing 72 hits and 29 walks. “With the pitching rubber moved back three feet, we had to do everything all over again,” Soddy-Daisy coach Clifford Kirk said. “We had to work differently on moving the ball. We got more movement, but she still maintained about the same speed. Her ERA was real good, especially when you consider throwing from 43 feet.”
