A call to Chattanooga police about a possible kidnapping early this morning led investigators to the alleged victim, who apparently made the whole thing up.
Patrick Johnson told police that, about 1 a.m., his girlfriend, Tanisha Jennings, 18, had called him and said she had been forced into a vehicle at gunpoint while at Sandy’s Mini Mart on Wheeler Avenue and kidnapped by a former boyfriend, according to a police release.
At first she said she was in East Ridge, then in Georgia on Interstate 75, then near Tiftonia, police said.
Police found Ms. Jennings’ former boyfriend in the Brainerd area while she was still making calls, saying she was being held.
Investigators found evidence that Ms. Jennings was in East Chattanooga the entire time the calls were being made and there were several inconsistencies in her statements.
The case is still under investigation.
