The victim of this morning’s shooting at 1236 North Concord Road was 24-year-old Michael Newby, who occupied the home, Chattanooga police said.
Major Crimes investigators also identified the suspect as 23-year-old Andrew Graves, who has not been located. He is wanted on a charge of first-degree murder and is considered armed and dangerous, police said
Investigators reported that at 4:16 a.m. they found the victim lying face-down behind his front door with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Hamilton County EMS personnel.
Officers were called by a juvenile female, who was in the home when the shooting occurred. She told them that Mr. Graves came to the front door as Mr. Newby ran out the back. Mr. Newby re-entered the residence through the front door and then was shot in the head, she told police.
Mr. Graves then left the scene on foot, according to police. The witness said she was at the house with the victim and two other witnesses, male and female, whose names have not been released.
“We are not yet sure why the suspect shot the victim, and what their relationship was,” said Chattanooga Police Capt. Tim Carroll, head of Major Crimes. He said there are now no certain indications that the crime was drug- or gang-related.
Investigators issued a search warrant at Mr. Graves’ last known address, but he was not located.
Police said he may be driving a white 1996 Buick Skylark with Tennessee tag 379 WFN.
