Letter reveals candidates’ faults
I write to express my endorsement of the letter written by William D. Heard (June 14).
The questions he put to the Tea Party candidates and the answers he got in return reveal just how inadequate and unprepared this type of person is to take on government responsibilities.
I admire Heard for his sense of history and for his writing ability. At the same time, I sense a touch of satire in his writings. I hope you will keep on writing, Mr. Heard.

New brush pickup system is broken
“If it ain’t broke — don’t fix it.”
In the past, a once- a-month brush pickup system seemed incredibly simple and worked very well. That has changed into one that seems to be a mess! A collection truck that came by once a month now goes by weekly passing brush piles that are new, old and very old in every neighborhood.
The city’s sanitation supervisor refers to savings in personnel and fuel cost. The elimination of five jobs would save any business money. The only problem is the job is not getting done. In the past, no one needed to answer, record and schedule the 35,000 calls that have been received. It seems a new job and more paper work have been created.
If this system is working so well and saving money, as the supervisor says, why not save much more by having everyone call when they need to have their garbage picked up.
The old system wasn’t broke and didn’t need fixing!

Accusers deserve financial ruin
I have followed this case against Ms. Tonya Craft since it was first brought over two years ago. What a travesty of justice that her accusers have ruined not only her life, but those of the children involved and now are whining about the money it’s going to cost them to defend themselves.
What about the half million dollars she had to spend in her defense? I can only hope that Ms. Craft makes loads of money and leaves the rest of them, attorneys included, financially devastated. Maybe this will be a lesson not only to them, but to anyone who decides to bring false charges against someone. As one jury member stated, this case should never have been brought to court.
Best of luck to Tonya and her pursuit of not only monetary compensation, but also trying to put her life with her children back together.

Thanks to police for quick response
In the early morning hours Tuesday, our security alarm went off signaling motion in the downstairs area of our home. The police were notified and arrived promptly. We want to say “thank you” to the Chattanooga Police Department for their prompt response to this situation. Fortunately it was a false alarm for reasons unknown, but it was a frightening time for us until they arrived.
Again, to the Chattanooga Police Department, thank you.
