The National Wildlife Federation is inviting families to sleep under the stars Saturday as part of the Great American Backyard Campout. The one-night event is designed to have participants surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature.
Those who register at the event’s website, www.greatamericanbackyard campout.org, get a few incentives as motivation.
* The Hershey Co. is partnering with NWF to help make camping sweeter. Registered campers will receive a coupon good for $1 off the purchase of any Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bar six-pack, perfect for creating s’mores.
* The Ranger Rick Night Owl Challenge is a game that entices all ages to experience the outdoors by finding things to taste, touch, see, smell and hear. By checking off the items on the list provided, they get closer to winning the challenge. Included are such experiences as seeing a bat, tasting a s’more, smelling a skunk, hearing crickets and stepping on a pinecone.
“Participating in the Great American Backyard Campout and taking the Ranger Rick Night Owl Challenge is the perfect way for families to make lasting memories and will give them a better understanding of why it’s called the great outdoors,” says Karoline Hurd, senior manager of events for National Wildlife Federation.
Registration also grants access to free games, nature activities, camping tips and campfire songs.
