The Chattanooga Girls Choir is auditioning singers in grades 4-12 for the 2010-2011 season. Auditions are by appointment only.
Executive Director Nicole Knauss said the choir has played several roles in the community since it was organized in 1987. Originally, there was a great demand for after-school enrichment programs and a need for choral music education to supplement limited school offerings, she said. Then, there was a shift to schools including the arts in the everyday education of children. The current economic state has some schools eliminating music education from their curriculum.
“Without the Chattanooga Girls Choir, many young ladies from around Chattanooga might not have another outlet in which she will be able to lift up her voice and sing,” Knauss said.
