Nielson, Lance in state final

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — It’s easy to tell when Calle Nielson doesn’t like the shot she just hit. She quickly turns away and reaches for her golf bag.

Nielson did just that following her second shot on the par-4 second hole Thursday afternoon at the Cleveland Country Club.

“I chunked it,” said the Nashville native and two-time Tennessee Golf Association women’s player of the year.

Nielson and Chattanooga’s Jordan Britt were playing the second extra hole of their semifinal match in the 70th Tennessee Women’s Amateur Championship, and this was no time for poor swings.

The shot of 105 yards wound up on the front left edge of the green, around 25 feet from the hole. But after Britt missed her birdie putt, Nielson lined up her attempt and buried it to win in a match that was tight throughout.
