CLEVELAND, Tenn. — It’s a growing year for local farmers markets.
Growers showing up at the traditional Peerless Road market bring fruits, vegetables and homemade pastry and canned goods to sell from their trucks and cars each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
“It’s good to see they are still in operation,” said County Commissioner Michael Plumley.
Mr. Plumley’s comment referred to plans to open another county farmers market on Urbane Road on county property there.
The Farmers Market North will include a covered area where cars and trucks can back up to unload.
“They are removing the trees and getting that site ready,” said Commissioner Jim Smith. “Everything is on go.”
Meanwhile MainStreet Cleveland is gearing up for its second year of the Five Points Market.
Executive Director Sharon Marr said more than 20 growers and crafters already have agreed to take part and more are expected.
Like last year, the Five Points Market began in the parking lot at the Museum Center at Five Points.
But shortly afterward, the First Street Square, a new landscaped park, opened and the market moved there, she said.
The market continues each Thursday throughout the growing season from 4 to 7 p.m.
