With more than 240 years of combined operation, Rock City Gardens, Ruby Falls and Lake Winnepesaukah have helped Chattanooga become a tourist destination for several generations.
While each of the three have maintained their unique identities over that time, they also have added new attractions to keep people coming back.
At Rock City, visitors can still view Lovers Leap and inch their way through Fat Man’s Squeeze, but now they also can attend one of their seasonal festivals or special events such as the Enchanted Garden of Lights during the holidays or the Enchanted Maize in the fall.
At Ruby Falls, the underground waterfall is still the main attraction, but the new ZipStream Aerial Adventure is proving to be a big hit, according to Meagan Jolley, public relations manager for Rock City and Ruby Falls.
“We’ve added these new features to keep people coming back, and it is an added value,” she said.
“Of course, those classic nostalgic places and features like Lovers Leap and Mother Goose Village are what people come to see whether they have been here before or not.”
Joining the Cannon Ball roller coaster at Lake Winnie, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary, are two new rides, a new make-your-own pizza outlet and a new game, according to Talley Green, park spokeswoman.
“The first new ride is The Sea Warrior, a family thrill ride, (the seats rotate and undulate as the whole ride turns in a circle) and The Silly Saucers, a kiddie teacup ride,” Ms. Green said. “We like to add new attractions whenever possible for our returning guests so they have something new and exciting to ride or do.”
