California is in political distress. Many Californians are unhappy with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is completing his limit of two consecutive terms.
The California Legislature has only a 16 percent approval rating. So do Californians want a return of former “Gov. Moonbeam,” otherwise known as Jerry Brown?
The Republican “front-runner” is reported to be Meg Whitman, former chief executive of eBay. She is being challenged for her party’s nomination by state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner.
But Democrat Attorney General, former California Secretary of State, former Oakland Mayor and former Gov. Brown says he wants to be California’s governor again — and he reportedly has several million dollars of campaign funds to back his ambition.
He is obviously the “big name” in the race and seems to have the benefit of “big bucks.” But while some candidates are less well-known, is former “Gov. Moonbeam” too well known?
Challenger Poizner said, “The last person they are going to turn to is a person like Jerry, the consummate career politician.”
Challenger Whitman said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.”
California politics is, well, unique. We’ll see.
