A 9-year-old boy is in critical condition after being hit by a car today in East Ridge, according to police.
East Ridge police and fire and rescue officers responded to a call about 4:20 p.m. that a child had been struck by a vehicle on the 5300 block of Lazard Street. The first officer arrived within three minutes to find the boy laying in the roadway, said police spokesman Erik Hopkins.
The boy had been riding a scooter when he was hit by a Chevy 1500 pickup truck, Mr. Hopkins said.
Mandi Hutsell, 23, of Ringgold, Ga., was traveling west on Lazard Street when she ran into the child, Mr. Hopkins said. She has been charged with reckless driving and is scheduled to be in East Ridge Municipal Court at 5 p.m. on May 11.
The child was transported to T.C. Thompson by Lifeguard EMS in critical condition.
