LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. – A former Lawrence County teacher has been indicted on charges of having sex with a student.
The Circuit Court Clerk’s office in Lawrenceburg confirmed Tuesday that a grand jury returned five counts of statutory rape by an authority figure against James Tucker on Feb. 26.
The TimesDaily of Florence, Ala., reported the indictments on accusations involving a 16-year-old girl at Summertown High School, where Tucker directed the band and taught three music classes. The newspaper reported the girl was one of Tucker’s students.
Lawrence County Chief Deputy Terry Beecham said Tucker remained in the county jail. He had been released on bond in December, but was arrested again last month. A court found he violated terms of his release by contacting the girl he is accused of having sex with.
