Truancy advisory board under study in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson-Madison County School Board will consider approving a truancy advisory board Thursday.

City leaders also will meet Tuesday to discuss truancy and youth crime issues.

The City Council rejected a curfew last week.

Recent data show the majority of juvenile offenses occur in the afternoon or on weekends, not during school hours or the hours of the proposed curfew.

The Jackson Sun quoted Amy Jones, director of Juvenile Court Services, as saying juveniles who were truant or suspended from school committed most of the recent youth offenses that happened during school hours.
