Chattanoogans can see a “Portrait of America” when the Census Bureau’s road tour stops here Sunday. A colorfully wrapped Sprinter van with a 12-foot trailer, dubbed “Founders,” allows on-site and online experiences that include educational, hands-on displays.
The stop includes music and refreshments, and there is no cost to participate. The tour will stop at New Covenant Fellowship Church, 1326 N. Moore Road, from noon to 2 p.m.
The tour is designed to inform people about the importance of the census and urge them to be included in the Portrait of America that the 2010 Census will create. Census questionnaires are scheduled to arrive in the mail Monday through Wednesday.
A program will feature remarks by Dr. Bernie Miller, pastor of New Covenant Fellowship church and chair of the African American Advisory Committee to the U.S. Census Bureau; representatives from both Hamilton County and Chattanooga’s mayors offices and other public officials.
