Hall visits for On Point banquet

Youth development program On Point will present its annual fundraising dinner Tuesday with author Ron Hall as guest speaker.

Hall is the co-author of “Same Kind of Different as Me,” a New York Times best seller about what happened when his wife urged him to step outside his comfort zone as an international art dealer and volunteer at a homeless shelter. His co-author is a man he met in the shelter, Denver Moore, an ex-convict drifter.

Their latest collaboration is “What Difference Do It Make,” a collection of Moore’s wisdom and inspiring stories from readers of the first book.

“Hall’s story shows how people from very different walks of life have the same basic need for support, friendship and connection,” said Lesley Scearce, executive director of On Point. “This is especially true for teenagers. Regardless of background, race or gender, all teens need consistent support to make healthy choices at this pivotal time in their lives.”

On Point was founded in 1991 as an abstinence-centered program in response to the alarming number of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases in Hamilton County and Northwest Georgia. In the past 18 years, the organization has equipped more than 13,000 adolescents each year with the knowledge and support to abstain from risky behaviors including sexual activity, drug and alcohol use and violence.
