RSVPs are due by Tuesday for Hunter Underground, presented by the Hunter Museum of American Art and the young-minded members of the museum’s Avant-art group.
This is the third year for the event, scheduled at 8 p.m. March 26. Guests will enjoy food, adult beverages, entertainment by ToneHarm and a silent auction. This year, they’ll also have the chance to “Smash & Grab” great art donated by two dozen local artists.
“There’s no other fundraiser quite like this one,” said Austin Center, chairman of the Avant-art committee. “After purchasing a Smash & Grab ticket, the ticketholder is entered in a drawing. Tickets will be drawn at random during the party, and that ticketholder will have 30 seconds to select their choice of artwork from the Smash & Grab Gallery.”
“It’s a fun way to place artwork into a collection, and it will create a festive atmosphere that allows everyone entered to have a chance at winning an incredible piece of art,” Center said.
The silent art auction will feature local and regional artists and will include about 30 items priced at $500 or less.
In keeping with the title of the event, the night’s activities will take place in the basement of the Hunter. The area will be transformed into an after-hours club with appropriate lighting, dancing and electronica, dance and hip-hop music by the three DJs of ToneHarm.
Tickets are $40 per person, $60 per person with a Smash & Grab ticket. Additional Smash & Grab tickets are $25 each or five for $100. Tickets may be purchased at the Hunter, 10 Bluff View, online at www.huntermuseum.com or by calling 267-0968. Extra Smash & Grab tickets may be purchased at the door.
