ICE bill approved in Georgia Senate

ATLANTA – A bill that would reward local governments participating in U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement programs to check arrestees’ immigration status passed the Georgia Senate today.

The vote was 37-11 for the Secured Communities program, officials said. The bill will help local governments pay for training and equipment so law officers quickly can confirm whether persons in custody are illegally in the country.

Illegal aliens accused of crimes can be turned over to federal authorities.
