OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Oak Ridge Mayor Tom Beehan says the city is well-qualified for a Google facility to build and test ultra-high-speed broadband networks.
He said the city is gathering information to submit to Google in hopes of being chosen for the project.
Beehan said Oak Ridge has the scientific and technical capabilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Y-12 National Security Complex and Oak Ridge Associated Universities.
He said in a news release there is no other city the size of Oak Ridge that could showcase the project better.
Beehan also cited the University of Tennessee, Roane State Community College and Pellissippi State Technical Community College as positive factors in the selection.
