The third of five Battle for Christ contests for contemporary and Christian rock bands is scheduled Saturday at the Bethlehem Center.
This is the second year for the competition sponsored by Legacy Recording Studio and Legacy Productions, based in Athens, Tenn.
Legacy owner Mark Hutchinson said the aim of the contests is twofold: to support the ministries of the bands and, more importantly, to lead young souls to Christ through testimony and heartfelt lyrics.
“It is our mission to share the message of Jesus Christ to our youth through the power of music,” he said. “It is our hope that youth groups will become involved in these events, inviting friends from school that do not attend church.”
Saturday’s Christian rock winner will advance to finals at Lee University preceding a May 15 concert by Decyfer Down. The contemporary Christian winner will advance to a final battle to be held on the opening night of J-Fest in Chattanooga on June 5.
The overall winner will move on to a September battle hosted by the Christian Festival Association and Word Records for a shot at a recording contract.
Tickets to watch Saturday’s competition are $5. Music starts at 1 p.m. The Beth is at 200 W. 38th St.
