Chattanooga: Woman critical after duplex fire

Firefighters responded to a fire this evening that left a woman in critical condition, according to the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Just after 5 p.m., firefighters responded to a duplex fire at 2510 E. 3rd St., where 25-year-old Casity Elder and her mother escaped the blaze, said Capt. Terri Whiteside, spokeswoman for the fire department. Ms. Elder was taken to Erlanger hospital with burns to her face and arms and is listed in critical condition, Capt. Whiteside said.

Lt. Henry McElvain said the fire began in the front bedroom of the home, but the cause still is undetermined, according to a fire department news release.
