U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., today recognized the “extraordinary” contributions of Chattanoogan Ruth Holmberg and five other Tennesseans in honor of Women’s History Month.
“One of our state’s greatest assets is its people, and this month I am proud to recognize six outstanding women from across Tennessee,” he said in a news release. “These women have risen to leadership roles in their respective organizations and dedicated their lives to making a positive difference in their communities, our state, and in many cases, our country. We thank them for their example and contributions.”
Mrs. Holmberg, publisher of the Chattanooga Times from 1964 to 1992, was a director of The New York Times Company and the New York Times Foundation. She also has been president of the Chattanooga Symphony Association and the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce.
She is joined as an honoree by Regina Bartlett, chief executive officer of Hendersonville Medical Center; Claudia Byrd, head of the Bristol Speedway Children’s Charities; Doris “Cousin Tuny” Freeman, former host of the “Cousin Tuny” TV show in West Tennessee and longtime co-emcee of the West Tennessee Cerebral Palsy Telethon; Deanie Parker, president and CEO of the parent company of the Stax Museum of American Soul Music; and Mintha Roach, president and CEO of the Knoxville Utilities Board.
