John Prine, Leon Redbone in Concert

Two of America’s best singer/songwriters will share the Tivoli stage Saturday night at 8 p.m. when John Prine is joined by special guest Leon Redbone.

Prine began his musical career in Chicago’s folk scene. Kris Kristofferson is credited with discovering him. His debute album contained “Illegal Smile” and “Sam Stone,” both considered signature songs for him.

Prine won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album in 2006 for “Fair & Square.” No less than Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash have named Prine among their favorite songwriters.

The guy in the Panama hat, dark sunglasses and string ties, Redbone is known for putting on shows filled with humor, skillful playing and a little mystery. (He often claims to have written songs penned before his time, and the couple he claims as his father and mother died in 1840 and 1887, respectively). He was a regular performer on Saturday Night Live in the ’70s and ’80s.

All seats are reserved at $39.50 and $52.50 plus convenience fees. Tickets can be purchased online at chattanoogaonstage.com, at the Auditorium box office or by calling 423-757-5050.
