Man charged in phone threats

Local police have arrested a man accused of making at least 30 calls over the past several months to public agencies across the nation in which he tells people on the other end to “please help before I rape the baby.”

Donald Allen Davis, 47, is charged with nine felony counts of filing a false report and is being held in the Bradley County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

Authorities also have removed a 2-year-old child from Mr. Davis’ residence in Bradley County, but there is no evidence the child was sexually abused, according to a statement from the Chattanooga police.

Chattanooga police had been investigating the case for years. The department would receive information periodically from other police departments that related to an anonymous caller in the Chattanooga area, but investigators always arrived at the target phone booths too late to catch the suspect, according to the statement.

Authorities finally caught Mr. Davis Thursday night while he was talking on a pay phone in the parking lot of the Family Dollar on Willow Street.
