Revolutionary War sword on display in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Revolutionary War sword has gone on display at the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville.

It was owned by John Rhea of Sullivan County, a Revolutionary War veteran and an early statesman in Tennessee. He participated in the 1796 state constitutional convention, served in the General Assembly and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rhea County is named after him.

The sword is part of a special exhibition called “Tennessee History Comes Alive.”

The exhibit continues through Aug. 29. Admission is free.
