Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried share the same birthday — Dec. 3 with Moore being born in South Carolina in 1960, and Seyfried in 1985 in Allentown, Pa. Here’s an update on their careers.
SEYFRIED
* What’s on tap: Will next be seen in the rom-com “Letters to Juliet” in May. Then next year in Bruce Beresford’s “A Woman of No Importance.” She’s also talking a new project with Glenn Close, “Albert Nobbs,” about a man in the Victorian era. And rumors have her attached to “The Girl With the Red Riding Hood,” a reimaging of the fairy tale from Catherine Hardwicke (“Twilight”).
* On being an actress: “Sometimes I feel like a fraud, and I know a lot of young actors that feel that way. Sometimes it feels like it’s too easy.”
* On Moore: “I think she helped me a lot through it … treating me like a peer and fellow actor. I felt like I belonged there. When I was shooting ‘Mamma Mia,’ I didn’t feel like I belonged there. I hadn’t done a lot, and I was thrown into this world with Meryl Streep … but (on ‘Chloe’) I felt I belonged. It was really, really encouraging.”
* Boyfriend: Dominic Cooper, whom she met on “Mamma Mia.”
* On “Big Love” (she played Bill Paxton’s daughter for four seasons): She’s no longer obligated, although she may shoot some future episodes. “I loved being on the set in Santa Clarita, because it’s like a family. I spent a lot of time up there. It’s nice up there, shopping, the spa, Target, you name it.”
* Musical tastes: Singer/songwriter folkie stuff — Cat Powers, Hem among others. Sang opera for a time growing up, but her voice is “getting more untrained by the minute. But I like an untrained voice.”
MOORE
* What’s on tap: An appearance on the soap “As the World Turns,” which is going off the air and is where she got her first break. “I love those people. They were very kind to me. I was happy to come back and be in a scene.” She’ll also be seen on a couple of episodes of “30 Rock.” July sees the release of Sundance favorite “The Kids Are All Right,” from writer/director Lisa Cholodenko. Annette Bening and Moore play lesbian partners whose teenage children are on a quest to meet their biological father (Mark Ruffalo). This summer she plans to shoot “Backwoods,” directed by her husband, Bart Freundlich. “Twilight’s” Kristen Stewart has just signed on.
* On Seyfried: “She was great, She’s a very lovely actress and incredibly present. It was something I really appreciated because the scenes between Catherine and Chloe are very quiet and are very emotionally intimate.”
* On Robert Altman’s influence: “He was my hero.” She saw “Three Woman” while in college at Boston University at 19 and “thought that’s the kind of acting I want to do. That’s who I want to work with. And, of course it was Bob Altman. So as I grew older I got to see more and more of his films, and the fact that I got to work with him on two films was major for me.”
