City Councilman Andraé McGary started a new job Monday afternoon as the host of WGOW-FM’s “Live and Local” program, replacing former host Robert T. Nash.
Mr. McGary said Monday he was contacted by Talk Radio 102.3 weeks ago about possibly being the permanent replacement, and he decided it was a good break for him and his family.
“Mama didn’t raise no fool,” he said. “When opportunities come your way, you take them.”
Mr. McGary has been on the City Council for one year, representing District 8, which encompasses the downtown area as well as Clifton Hills and Avondale. Recently, he was involved in a controversy when he took a job as interim executive director for the Chattanooga Regional Homeless Coalition.
He resigned after questions arose about conflicts of interest because the City Council sometimes gives money to the coalition.
