Opposition to Arizona’s immigration law has mutated into left-wing panic. (Though come to think of it, does any sensible policy not mutate into left-wing panic these days?)
Unglued masses from the headquarters of Newsweek to Mexico’s presidential mansion to Linda Ronstadt’s patio can’t fathom that somebody said, “No more, thanks,” to the world-without-borders set.
But I, for one, want to encourage the pro-amnesty swarm to pump up the Kevlar-puncturing hysteria. Use your free speech, dear ones, to let us know how you really feel.
Keep waving signs with inane bromides such as, “No human is illegal!”
Keep screaming “Nazi!” at everyone who doubts the wisdom of handing get-out-of-deportation-free cards to enough illegal aliens to displace the combined populations of Tennessee, Georgia and Oregon.
Keep mum about attacks on our border agents.
Keep blurring the line between lawful and unlawful immigration by calling anyone who opposes the latter “anti-immigrant.”
Keep ignoring U.S. citizens murdered by illegal alien gang members who had previous brushes with the law but were never deported because they lived in sanctuary cities.
Keep quiet about the fact that some of the 9/11 hijackers were in this country illegally when they slaughtered close to 3,000 Americans.
Keep playing dumb about border-state hospitals that have gone bankrupt giving mandatory free care to illegal aliens.
Keep likening a border fence to the Berlin Wall, even though the Berlin Wall was built to hold East Germans captive, not to keep out foreign invaders.
Keep silent on the fact that President Obama’s illegal alien aunt remains in the United States even though she was ordered deported six years ago. (And definitely don’t mention that she lived in public housing on the taxpayers’ dime!)
Just keep doing exactly what you’re doing. By depicting everyone who disagrees with you as Benji Blackheart, you confirm the good sense of the majority of Americans who beat back amnesty in 2007 – and you increase the likelihood that they will turn out in force on Election Day to declare us a nation of laws again.
Silliness in Bloom(berg)
I don’t know that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was the first to misconnect the dots between the would-be Times Square bomber and opponents of ObamaCare, but he was the most prominent and ridiculous.
Before an arrest was made in the case, Bubbles Couric on CBS asked the mayor to speculate on the background of the bomber. He brainstormed, “Home-grown, maybe a mentally deranged person or somebody with a political agenda that doesn’t like the health care bill or something. It could be anything.” But for the mayor, “anything” did not include the obvious: that it was yet another radical “grown” in a Muslim country – much like the radicals who have killed Americans over and over.
When a Pakistan native was captured and admitted he had trained with radical Muslim terrorists in his home country before the attempted bombing, the mayor not only failed to apologize for slandering opponents of ObamaCare, but he lectured New Yorkers lest they show “bias” against Muslims and Pakistanis.
Fine. Let’s show bias against mayors who rush to assume opponents of ObamaCare are murderers.
Surprising sense
Let it not be said that Jesse Jackson is never right.
Attending a meeting between the Rev. Jackson and editors and reporters at the Times Free Press, I endured his usual wealth redistribution and gun control jibber jabber. But he made some points worth repeating.
He pleaded with parents to do six things:
* Take (don’t send) your children to school.
* Meet your children’s teachers.
* Exchange phone numbers with said teachers and keep in touch with them.
* Turn off the television three hours per night. (Better still, smash it with a sledgehammer.)
* Review your children’s report cards (to which I would add, offer hugs to reward hard work, and leg switchings – followed by hugs – to discourage sloth).
* Take your children to church.
If America heeded those suggestions and ignored the rest of the Rev. Jackson’s agenda, crime would drop like a 20-pound Butterball pitched off the Empire State Building, welfare rolls would shrivel, and good will would abound.
Here’s hoping.
