With several other area high school baseball teams postponing games due to Monday’s showers, topography forced Boyd-Buchanan to make every effort to get its game in.
Situated at one of the lowest points on campus — between the school buildings and Chickamauga Creek — the Buccaneers’ field was threatened by water from two sides. The decision for coach Steve Robbins was either to start in a drizzle and hope for the best or take the chance of losing games and home-field advantage for two days.
Once they started, the regular-season champions made quick work of it, beating Arts & Sciences 12-0 in five innings in a District 5-A semifinal.
Games in District 6-A at Lookout Valley, District 5-AA at McMinn Central and Polk County, 6-AA at Hixson and 7-AA at Sequatchie County were postponed. Those teams will pick up Monday’s games today, and games scheduled for today will be pushed to Wednesday.
Also postponed Monday was the 5-A losers-bracket semifinal between Silverdale Baptist and Grace Academy.
