Portions of Airport and Shallowford roads, Barton Avenue and Dayton Boulevard will soon be repaved using approximately $1.6 million worth of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.
“Within the next 30 days the work will start,” assistant Chattanooga city engineer Dennis Malone said last week. “They (Highways Inc.) have a 90-day contract on each of the four projects.”
Malone could not comment on whether projects would occur simultaneously or which one would come first if not. Neither Highways Inc. nor oversight company Allen and Hoshell returned calls.
The four projects met the federal designation that they be major roads, and Malone said the repaving work is warranted by their current condition and travel demand. He added that he expects the ARRA funds received to cover the entire cost for all the projects.
Airport Road will be paved from Shallowford to the airport connector road and from Shepherd Road to Highway 153. Shallowford Road will be paved from Bonny Oaks Drive to Hickory Valley Road.
Barton Avenue will be paved from Hixson Pike to Veterans Bridge. Dayton Boulevard will be paved from the city limits to Highway 153.
