Chattanooga fire investigators arrested a 17-year-old girl Thursday in connection with a May 5 fire.
Lt. Henry McElvain said the teenage girl got into a fight with her boyfriend at 1412 Cyprus Street Courts and threatened to burn up all of his possessions, according to a Chattanooga Fire Department news release.
A maintenance man reportedly heard the two shouting at each other, then saw the girl setting a mattress on fire, said Bruce Garner, fire department spokesman. The maintenance worker pulled the burning mattress out of the building, limiting the damage, Mr. Garner said.
The juvenile was arrested and charged with aggravated arson because other residents were in the building when the incident occurred and the fire endangered all of their lives, Mr. Garner said.
She was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center, he said.
