A trio of home runs and a lack of offense ended the season for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team on Thursday. The Lady Mocs lost 4-1 to UNC Greensboro and followed with a 3-0 loss to Georgia Southern in their second game of the double-elimination tournament.
Eileen Horsmon’s first career grand slam was more than enought to lead the Spartans to a 4-1 win over the Lady Mocs in the early game, and Amber Harrell carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning before UTC’s Tiffany Baker hit a solo home run with two outs.
Against Georgia Southern, UTC managed four hits and had their chances to put runs on the board. But the Lady Mocs weren’t able to get clutch hits when they needed them and home runs by Jenny Side and Megan Smith accounted for all three of the Eagles runs.
Smith’s home run was her 18th of the season and ties her for second in the SoCon single season record book.
UTC, who won its fourth consecutive regular season SoCon title, ends the season with a record of 39-17.
