100TH ANNIVERSARY Chattanooga Primitive Baptist Church

CELEBRATION

Chattanooga Primitive Baptist Church will hold a centennial celebration this weekend with events today and Sunday. Today, services will be offered at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., with lunch provided in between. The services will highlight historic moments in the congregation’s history, and a booklet summarizing the history will be distributed. The celebration will conclude on Sunday with a worship service at 10:30 a.m. and lunch following the service. Several former pastors of the church and other ministers are expected to attend. The weekend events began Friday with a light supper, brief history presentation and worship service with a capella singing using old shape-note hymnals.

The church on June 10-12 will host a shape-note singing school for people of all ages and levels of experience. The classes will teach and practice the “do-re-mi” singing evidenced in the movie “The Sound of Music” and similar to Sacred Harp hymnody.
