House bill would require warning light for dangerous truck loads

NASHVILLE – Any truck using a pole trailer to haul logs or other material at night will have to attach a red warning light if the load juts out the back by more than four feet under a bill approved today by the House.

The bill, sponsored by House Transportation Committee Chairman Bill Harmon, D-Dunlap, passed on a 94-0 vote. Rep. Harmon said improperly marked loads threaten other motorists’ lives.

“Two people in my county have been killed,” he said.

The Senate companion bill is ready to go to the Senate floor for a final vote.
