Russ Lee, whose voice has helped define the sound of two favorite contemporary Christian groups, will return to his hometown tonight to usher in “Spirit in the Night.”
An audience favorite, “Spirit in the Night” is the traditional showcase of gospel music during the four-week Evening Shade Concerts in the Park series at Johnston Park in Cleveland, Tenn.
Heralded by his peers as one of Christian music’s strongest vocalists, the multiple Dove Award nominee recently released a best-of collection, “Pictures on Mantles.” It offers Top 5 hits from his 2000 solo debut (“Live What I Believe,” “I Smile”), as well as several career-spanning songs with NewSong (“Love Revolution,” “Miracles”) and Truth (“Living Life Upside Down”).
Opening for Lee is a group described as a musical mosaic. Drawn Out comes together with backgrounds of varying styles, including rock, gospel, Bahamian rake and scrape, hip-hop, jazz and R&B. During their Evening Shade debut, they will present a selection of original songs they have played for audiences up and down the East Coast.
Evening Shade is a program of the Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce. Picnics in the park are welcome.
