Most softball sectionals Saturday

Rain, graduation and unfortunately a funeral are some of the reasons today’s original schedule of TSSAA softball Division I state sectional games has been altered greatly.

The only area team attempting to play today is Grace Academy, which is planning to host Gordonsville at 5:30 p.m. Lady Golden Eagles coach Tina Walker said she plans to call Gordonsville’s coach this morning if it looks like a certain rainout. Otherwise the Lady Tigers are planning to leave for Chattanooga at noon CDT.

“If they’re coming down anyway, they plan on spending the night,” Walker said. “We’re going to try to play at 5:30. If that doesn’t work out, we’ll play some time Saturday.”

The other Class A sectional involving an area team will be Marion County playing Friendship Christian at Lebanon on Saturday at 6 EDT. Marion County’s graduation was moved to Friday because of the death of a student, whose funeral was Thursday. His brother, a former student, was killed in the same car wreck.

Central coach LeeAnne Shurette said her Class AA Lady Purple Pounders are going to host DeKalb County at 5 p.m. Saturday. She said DeKalb has its graduation scheduled tonight, but it could get rained out. If so, it will be rescheduled for Saturday morning, then the Lady Tigers will make the trip to Chattanooga.
