The Mountain Shadows Dolphins swim team is recruiting new swimmers for summer practices, which begin June 1.
The team is not limited to Mountain Shadows residents. Children and teens from Hurricane Creek, Windstone, and other neighborhoods up and down East Brainerd Road, Ooltewah-Ringgold Road and beyond are welcome to join.
“Swimming is the next best thing to flying,” said team manager and Mountain Shadows resident Susan Harris. “It’s more than learning how to swim. It’s a lot of fun.”
Dolphins head coach Gretchen Moore said she’s been a lifeguard all her life.
“They always said I was born with fins,” she said.
Moore and assistant coach Jen Hulett, a teacher at East Hamilton Middle School, help kids stay active in the summer, overcome fears of water and hang out with the their neighbors.
“This is a chance for them to get together with the kids in their neighborhood that they never see,” Harris said.
The team hosts parties all summer, evening parties for teenagers and an end-of-the-season Day on the Lake.
The Dolphins team is part of the 23-year-old Chattanooga Fun Swim League and competes with teams in Holly Hills and in Hidden Harbor five times during the summer.
Children 5 to 18 years old may swim. Costs depend on how many siblings swim. An extra fee applies for families who do not live in Mountain Shadows.
