An unfortunate incident

By the nature of things, with so many people involved, there sometimes are unfortunate “tussles” at schools. But disorder can’t be tolerated, for the safety and advancement of the students and our society.

It is very unfortunate that there recently was an incident at Red Bank High that was much too serious. A conflict between students involved a cafeteria fight that escalated into a student assault on an assistant principal who stepped in to break up the trouble.

General Sessions Judge Bob Moon gave a 30-day jail sentence to the offending student – who fortunately has graduated. It is hoped the punishment will be a positive “learning experience” for the offender, and will reinforce awareness of the importance of respect for teachers.

Education is important for us all. Discipline is an essential part of education and life. With our young people being our most precious resource, and with our schools being among our most positive influences for the future, it is necessary to be firm whenever any dangerous or antisocial challenge arises.
